Herb Spotlight: Cinnamon properties, uses, and lore

Herb Spotlight: Cinnamon properties, uses, and lore

Cinnamon: it's not just for pumpkin spice anymore, although drinking a pumpkin spice latte may be the quickest and easiest ritual we have ever seen.

Cinnamon is commonly used in money drawing spells. It also stimulates your psychic powers so you may experience clearer divination and get better answers from your tarot cards, runes, or pendulum.

Cinnamon has been used in rituals for centuries, particularly by the Egyptians and Hebrews. Wreaths of cinnamon leaves were used to decorate ancient Roman temples.

At the beginning of each month, stand outside your front door and blow cinnamon across your threshold to encourage luck and prosperity. To increase a waning libido (hello, perimenopause!), eat apples and cinnamon, like our favorite apple crisp.

Cinnamon is generally considered safe to use, as long as you are consuming a teaspoon or less per day. There were widespread reports of lead being found in many brands of cinnamon in the summer of 2024. Cinnamon contains coumarin, which, when taken in large quantities, may interact with blood pressure, diabetes, and liver medications, so check with your doctor if you take any of these before you hit the food court for that giant cinnamon roll. Cinnamon may also cause pregnant people to go into labor prematurely, but again, check with your doctor.

Cinnamon is incredibly important in various cuisines around the world, well beyond your favorite fall baking spice blends. From masalas in India to Moroccan cuisine and foods all across Africa, we are sure that you will find a use for cinnamon that you absolutely love.
